Spoiler alert: it does, but not in the way you might think. In this session we\u2019ll dig into <em>WHY<\/em>\u2014the specific economic policies, practices, and larger cultural narratives that have reinforced economic outcomes in America. If time, we&#8217;ll explore what we can do about it and be inspired by approaches other communities have taken throughout time to foster a broader sense of economic thriving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guest Speaker: Christopher Smith<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our session will be led by professor <a href=\"https:\/\/wmich.edu\/socialwork\/directory\/smith\">Christopher Smith<\/a>. Christopher currently serves as the MSW Program Director at Western Michigan University where he specializes in teaching social welfare policy, cultural competence, and macro community practice. He brings with him over 30 years of service in the public, nonprofit and academic sectors, including 20 years in executive management and consulting for nonprofit, public and faith-based organizations including roles as the chief operating officer of a Michigan Works agency and as deputy director of a community mental health authority.
